Personalities are a mechanic in Miitopia.

Party member personality[]

Personalities are assigned to the Hero and their teammates upon their creation, and can be changed at any time through their profile. A Mii's personality does not only reflect their attitude - it also grants them different quirks that activate randomly during battles and various events.

All personalities have positive quirks and negative quirks. For example, a Mii with the Stubborn personality may defend themselves to take less damage (positive), but they can also refuse help from teammates (e.g. healing from a Cleric). (negative)

Below is the list of personalities that can be assigned to party members.

  • Kind: Spare, Donate, Cover
  • Energetic: Charge, Cheer, Hang On
  • Cool: Pressure Point, Indifference, Avoid, Shan't
  • Laid-back: Hide, Cadge, Nah..., Get Serious, Slack Off
  • Airheaded: Oops!, Frolic, Sleepyhead
  • Stubborn: Patience, Again, Bluff
  • Cautious: Finisher, Warm Up, Prepped and Ready

Poses[]

  • Each personality has its own signature pose, one for basic reactions such as levelling up, and another when executing a quirk:
    • Kind: Jumps up and has arms spread out. When executing a quirk, they rock back and forth while waving their arms.
    • Energetic: Jumps up, then raises their left arm. When executing a quirk, it jumps the same way, but stands on their left foot.
    • Cool: Looks down and swings its head to the left, with their left arm on their hip.
    • Laid-back: Does some stretches and does a "ready" pose.
    • Airheaded: Twirls around and tilts their head with their left hand on their chin. When executing a quirk, they gaze upward and look around.
    • Stubborn: Flexes their arms while bending and hunching forward.
    • Cautious: Jumps and bends with their left fist up. When executing a quirk, they wield their weapon defensively with a worried expression against both of their sides.
  • If a Mii is singing, different personalities have their own distinct singing animations:
    • Kind, Laid-back, and Airheaded: Rocking side to side with their arms out.
    • Energetic and Stubborn: Squatting back and forth.
    • Cool and Cautious: Marching in place while clapping their hands.
  • When a Mii is being moved around in an inn, each personality has different dangling animations:
    • Kind: Has their head and arms raised and jiggles side to side.
    • Laid-back: Looks back and forth with their body shaking side to side.
    • Airheaded: Waves their whole body around while waving their arms.
    • Energetic: Shakes back and forth and wave their arms vigorously.
    • Cool: Dangles feebly with a thinking pose.
    • Stubborn: Has their head lowered and arms folded while shaking.
    • Cautious: Holds their hands together and dangles feebly.
  • In cutscenes where a face is about to be put on a monster, different personalities react accordingly:
    • Kind: Looking back and forth in shock.
    • Energetic and Laid-back: Jumping up and down while flailing their arms.
    • Cool: Folding their arms and scowling.
    • Airheaded: Dancing around, oblivious to the situation.
    • Stubborn: Shaking angrily.
    • Cautious: Jittering fearfully.

Sound effects[]

  • Each personality has its own distinct talking noise. Should a Mii's personality get changed, their talking noise will change as well.
  • If a Mii is singing, its singing noise is different depending on the personality:
    • Kind: A medium-pitched "Woo-oo" singing noise
    • Energetic: A medium-pitched "Oh-aa" singing noise
    • Cool: A high-pitched "Ya-ya" singing noise
    • Laid-back: A high-pitched "Waa-aa" singing noise
    • Airheaded: A high-pitched "Wee-wee" singing noise
    • Stubborn: A high-pitched "Aaa-aaa" or "Naa-aa" singing noise
    • Cautious: A high-pitched "Wee-eee" singing noise, slightly higher than the Airheaded's

Events[]

  • During "Bottle" events:
    • Stubborn and Cautious Miis will throw the bottle away without input.
    • Energetic and Airheaded Miis will immediately drink from the bottle without input, unless they say it smells funny.
  • During "Dig" events:
    • Energetic and Stubborn Miis will dig deeper without input after choosing to dig if the attempt fails.
    • Cool and Laid-back Miis will immediately ditch the activity without input if the first attempt fails.

Traveler personality[]

Traveler Mii characters encountered in Travelers' Hub also come with their own personality. Unlike the seven personalities mentioned above, Travelers' personalities do not affect the battle in any way. Also, what personality a Traveler has depends on their skills decided by their Mii's submitter (for example, a Mii with the Chatting skill will become a Chatty Mii in Travelers' Hub), which is done before submitting said Mii to Miitopia's Mii Central. The only things that are affected by the Travelers' personalities are the quest wording (though changing the Traveler via Mii Cast into another with a different personality still keeps the dialogue from the firstly-generated character) and Traveler-only events during explorations. In the Nintendo Switch version, the Traveler-specific personalities still exist, but due to the lack of Mii Central's manual submission, the personalities given to them upon arriving at the Travelers' Hub are decided randomly.
